Mental Health Professional Development Program
The American Psychiatric Association Foundation (APAF) delivers the Notice. Talk. Act.® at School Mental Health Professional Development Program to elementary, middle and high and alternative schools, and institutions of higher learning in the United States. The program is designed to train school staff in both traditional public schools and non-traditional schools to equip them with the knowledge and skills needed to notice early warning signs of mental health conditions, effectively talk to students about exhibiting those signs, and act to refer those students to approrpriate services and supports. The curriculum is delivered by APAF staff or APAF certified trainers.
Program Components:
- E-learning module with videos, audio playbacks and quizzes (30-45 minutes)
- Classroom module designed to be tailored to you school (90 minutes)
- Online assessments
- 12 months of engagement opportunities with new courses based on your school's assessments

Notice. Talk. Act.® at School Grant
APAF is offering a grant opportunity to 10 schools annually to cover the full cost of the direct delivery of the Notice. Talk. Act.® at School Program. Please review the information below to determine if you are interested in applying for the grant.
Eligibility Requirements
- Your school must be an elementary, middle, high, or alternative school in the United States that has a mental health/support service referral system established (this can be as simple as referring students to the school counselor)
- 40% or more of your student population is eligible for free or reduced-price meals
Submission Requirements
- Attach evidence to demonstrate that 40% or more of your student population is eligible for free or reduced-price meals
- A letter of support from your administration must be attached to your application
Awardee Information and Requirements
You are agreeing to:
- Share data with the APAF team on truancy, support service referrals, discipline referrals, and major mental health events to help measure the impact of implementing the Notice. Talk. Act.® framework in you school
- Require 90% of your staff to complete a 6-month assessment to gauge their comfort with and knowledge of the Notice. Talk. Act.® framework to determine if additional courses are necessary

Notice. Talk. Act.® at School Delivery
Direct Delivery
APA Foundation Staff or APA Foundation Certified Trainer works directly with you school.
Train the Trainer
APA Foundation Staff or APA Foundation Certified Trainer trains school mental health/counseling professionals in your school district, and the trained professionals deliver the training to their own school, "Train the Trainer."

- 12 months of engagement opportunities with new courses based on your school's assessments
Important Information
- The application is always open, we accept schools on a rolling basis
- Your school must be an elementary, middle, high, alternative school, or institution of higher learning in the United States that has a mental health/support service referral system established (this can be as simple as referring students to the school counselor)
- If accepted, we will work directly with your school to schedule a date to deliver the training

Register
Click on the "Register" link and complete and submit the registration form.

Login to the award with your email and password.
Create
Create your applications under the My Dashboard page.
Save
During the Call for Applications period, your application can be saved as DRAFT until all the required information is completed and attachments uploaded. As each section is complete, you will see a
appear in the category tab when the application is saved. At any time, you can download and print your application by clicking on the
icon in the Application Summary section.
Submit
On completion, submit your application as FINAL. Download and print a copy of your application for your records by clicking on the
icon in the Application Summary section in the right column. Note: If an update is required prior to the Call for Applications period, you can make the update and resave as FINAL.
